Do you experience leg pain from time to time? If so, do not dismiss the discomfort.
The pain could be an early warning sign of a vascular health issue in your legs.
We at the Metropolitan Cardiovascular Institute are here to help provide a patient-centered diagnosis and treatment plan.
Some causes of leg pain include the following:
· Varicose Veins are twisted, enlarged veins that may cause pain and discomfort.
They can develop anywhere in the body but most often develop in the legs.
· Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a vascular-related issue that develops when circulation is reduced due to clogged arteries near the heart. As a result, patients experience pain most often in the feet and legs. Issues may also develop in the arms, hands, or abdomen.
· Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a condition where a blood clot forms in a peripheral vein that is often found in the lower leg. Patients typically experience pain and swelling.
To diagnose the cause of the leg pain, the patient will receive a comprehensive examination that utilizes ultrasound imaging.
Based upon the findings, our practice may discuss the following:
· Compression Stockings - to help improve blood flow, to provide pressure to the legs, and to reduce any discomfort or swelling.
· Medication - to reduce health issues that contribute to poor blood flow (high cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood clots).
· Ablation Therapy - to use a heat therapy to close and seal the vein.
· Angioplasty - to place a tube inside blood vessels and open blocked arteries via a balloon- like device; insert a stent to keep the artery open.
